Up and Coming: GEAR 12
Our community's recent musical releases, rounded up.
PRETYMAN - Builder
This marked our first time recording multiple sessions separately at different studios and spaces, and the track came together better than I could have ever hoped. The general concept of the song is the listless feeling of searching for love that you know will never work out. It also combines occult symbolism with ideas of the divine, all culminating in an immense wall of sound.
THE CINDYS - Glass Shattered
Taking their cues from the likes of The Clean and Beat Happening, The Cindys have presented a new single that is the perfect combination of indie and art rock. Relaxed in nature yet full of surprising moments, the track is the perfect accompaniment to your knitting sesh, or maybe even while you make some bread. Think summer haze, long days, and bonfires -- this track will take you there.
HONEYGLOW - Creepy Crawly
In case you missed it... in June, fairy grunge 5 piece honeyglow released their long awaited debut, Creepy Crawly! The lyrics really shine here, encompassing feelings that we've all experienced at one time or another --- alienation, societal pressure, and disgust. With a killer riff that blends perfectly into soaring choruses and enticing hooks, we promise you'll have this one on repeat all Autumn.
VARIOUS ARTISTS - Are We Having Fun?
As a celebration of their 10th birthday, Breakfast Records (the coolest indie label, maybe ever) decided to release a compilation album of some of their favourite artists in the Bristol music scene. Featuring Getdown Services, Langkamer, Mumble Tide, and Eva Penney (to name a few), this album is the perfect soundtrack for your next turn on the aux.
MANDRAGORA - Egomaniacal
Mandragora are back again to stun with their newest offering of thrashing, fast-paced metal. The singalong, stomp-worthy chorus contrasts perfectly with the panic inducing, chaotic verses. Lead singer Maisie breaks into a guttural, chest piercing scream, followed by atmospheric laughter that adds a theatrical edge. If you've got some energy that needs releasing, put this track on full volume and get screaming!
FEDERICO BOSCO - Ellos (EP)
Ellos is a conceptual piece — off the grid, underground, and deeply rooted in a strong aesthetic and political stance. Born out of urban alienation and contemporary crisis in Argentina, the album fuses textures of IDM, Avant jazz and Big Beat.
GETDOWN SERVICES - Massive Champion (Album)
For their third studio album, Getdown Services have thrown out the rulebook entirely, using the album's runtime to explore softer instrumentation than their usual dance-centric approach. The result is a beautiful, well-rounded project that's as vulnerable as it is powerful.
BATTERY ACID - Valley of Love
Crafted, as always, with equal parts witchcraft and wizardry, Battery Acid's newest single combines medieval themes with a whole lot of romance. With chuggy riffs, System of a Down-esque vocal melodies, punchy choruses and ethereally beautiful harmonies, this one's sure to get you swinging your tankard around (just don't spill any mead on us).
