GEAR 9 Launch Party

For the 9th edition of GEAR Zine, we had a very special team up with indie label bluehue — founded by EDM artist JB Hain. In the spirit of the collab, we figured, what better way to celebrate than having a night fuelled by electronic music? 

The GEAR team headed to Cafe Kino, Bristol on the 29th September to set up the merch desk, the DJ decks, and lay out the freshly printed zines. All that was left to do was wait for the party to kick off…

With 50 people in attendance, the 65 cap venue quickly began to feel alive. Audio visual artist Starat provided some mesmerising visuals as a perfect backdrop for the performers, with a glittery landscape that reacted to the movement of the audience. Bruno Dimitrov started the night with some laidback dance tunes, gearing (see what we did there?) everyone up for the evening ahead. 

By the second act, everyone was raring to go. And who better to keep them moving than our cover girl herself — JB Hain? Her techno wizardry lit up the entire dance floor and people began to lose themselves amongst the soundscape. 

And just as we thought it couldn’t possibly get any better, our very special headline act made his way to the stage. EDM legend Laxcity made light work of the decks as he effortlessly wove together thumping beats with glittering toplines. By this point, the small basement room seemed to breathe with energy. The night was rounded off with a B2B performance from all three of our DJs, where they bounced tunes off each other and took turns sharing the decks. 

We couldn’t have asked for a better night at Cafe Kino. A massive thanks to everyone who came along, as well as our talented performers and resident artist, Starat.
