Spotlight: GEAR 12
The artists that have taken centre stage on our release radar...
Along with our up and coming artists that we showcase for each edition, we curate some of our faves, the ones we have on repeat, for you to listen to! Here's our GEAR 12 roundup:
MANDRAGORA - Egomaniacal
Since Mandragora first graced my ears, I've been canonically obsessed with all their releases. All this, despite not being a huge metalhead. It's the mesmeric blend between lightness and heaviness that does it for me - occupying the delicate space between sing and scream. EGOMANIACAL is no exception - vocalist Maisie's elastic band of a performance stretches, as always, between subtle and strong - never compromising on quality, always threatening to snap before pulling you right back into the room. It's a gorgeous exploration of the human condition, done in the most satisfyingly head-bangy (is that a word?) way. Top one, Mandragora. Hit it out of the park for me once again.

PRETYMAN - Builder
Builder explores something that we've all felt at one time or another - the strange discourse that comes with certain relationships. Reflecting on a hopeless love and the concept of never quite getting what you're looking for, PRETYMAN take refuge in beautifully kooky time signatures and a quintessentially Bristolian sound. The song asks of their lover, "What are we building?" - and indeed, I wonder what PRETYMAN are building - it seems like they're laying the foundations for a pioneering and unique musical career.
HONEYGLOW - Creepy Crawly
Honeyglow wowed fans with their very first release back in June, exploring themes of alienation, autonomy, and female rage. Leading with a wicked guitar riff that's been imprinted on my brain since the first time I heard it, the song opens out into a beautiful and strong exploration of difficult themes. And that chorus melody? Damn. Can't wait to see what Honeyglow do next!
